Why it matters

Pets can't tell you when something's off.

Catch issues early

Heart murmurs, dental disease, kidney changes — most show up in routine exams long before symptoms.

Live longer, healthier lives

Pets on consistent preventive care have measurably better outcomes and longer lifespans.

Spend less over time

Prevention is almost always cheaper than treatment. A vaccine costs less than the disease.

A baseline that grows

Each visit builds a clearer picture of your pet's health, making future care more accurate.

Inside the visit

What your vet actually does.

Physical exam

Heart, lungs, eyes, ears, mouth, skin, joints, abdomen. Hands-on assessment of everything we can check from the outside.

History & lifestyle

Appetite, energy, behavior changes, diet, exercise. The conversation matters as much as the exam.

Diagnostics as needed

Bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal tests, x-rays — done in-house with same-day results in most cases.

Vaccine & preventive review

A check on what's due, what's coming up, and what your pet specifically needs.

What to expect

Your visit, start to finish.

1

Check-in & history

A quick weigh-in and a chat about how things have been at home — appetite, energy, any new behaviors or concerns.
2

Nose-to-tail exam

Your vet listens to heart and lungs, checks eyes, ears, mouth, skin, joints, and abdomen. About 15 minutes of hands-on time.
3

Vaccines & diagnostics

Any boosters or in-house lab work happen during the same visit. Most bloodwork comes back the same day.
4

Plan & takeaways

You'll leave with clear notes, refilled preventives if needed, and an upfront estimate for anything we recommend next.

Common questions

Wellness exams, answered.

How long does a wellness exam take?

Plan on 20–30 minutes from check-in to walking out. About 15 minutes of that is hands-on exam time; the rest is the conversation about your pet's history, recommendations, and any vaccines or labs we run during the visit.

Can vaccines and the exam happen at the same visit?

Yes — that's the norm. We do the exam first, confirm your pet is healthy enough to vaccinate, then administer any boosters that are due during the same appointment. No second visit needed.

Why might my vet recommend bloodwork or x-rays?

Routine bloodwork establishes a baseline for your pet's organ function and is the single best way to catch silent diseases like kidney issues or hyperthyroidism early. X-rays usually come up if we hear or feel something during the exam — a heart murmur, joint issue, or abdominal abnormality — and want to confirm before we recommend a treatment plan.

What does a wellness exam cost?

A standard wellness exam at Sploot is $79. Vaccines, diagnostics, and preventives are quoted separately so you can decide what to add. SplootPack members get 3 free exams a year and 10% off everything else — most clients break even after their second visit.

What's the difference between a wellness exam and a sick visit?

A wellness exam is proactive — your pet is healthy and we're checking that everything still looks right. A sick visit is reactive — something specific is wrong, and we're diagnosing and treating it. The visits look similar from the outside, but the focus is different. If your pet shows symptoms during what was meant to be a wellness exam, we'll typically convert it to a sick visit on the spot rather than make you book a second one.
