Urgent care for pets is for non-life-threatening cases that require urgent attention. Meanwhile, emergency care is advisable when pets go through a life-threatening crisis that is typically time-sensitive — such as sudden loss of consciousness, severe trauma, and anaphylaxis (i.e. a severe life-threatening allergic reaction.)Sploot vet clinics handle both urgent care cases AND more than 95% of emergency cases seen in ERs. How do I know if my pet needs urgent attention?

If your pet shows sudden concerning symptoms, signs of pain, or has had an accident or ingested a harmful substance, they likely need emergency vet care services. Call our Emergency Vet Care Hotline team and they will assist you on the best course of action.

What is the process for an emergency visit?

An emergency vet visit at Sploot involves a pet triage, medical examination, diagnostic testing, and treatment. 

When your pet needs specialized care, we're here to help. Our team can manage pain and stabilize your furry friend before referring them to trusted specialists.

Yes, we require you to call ahead so that our team can assess your pet's condition quickly and guide you to the appropriate clinic, ensuring immediate and suitable care upon your arrival.

What is Urgent Intake (Drop-Off Emergency Care) at Sploot?

Urgent Intake is our specialized service for pets needing immediate veterinary care. It ensures a safe environment with constant medical supervision for your pet. 

After dropping off your pet at Sploot, our team conducts thorough assessments to determine and prioritize your pet's needs, creating an optimal treatment plan. 

Throughout your pet's stay, we keep you updated with regular progress reports and pictures, involving you in every step of the decision-making process.

How long will my pet's emergency visit take?

The length of time for an emergency visit will vary depending on the condition of the dog or cat and the treatment required.

What should I bring with me to my pet's emergency visit?

If you are a current Sploot client, we have your furry companion’s medical records with us. You won’t need to bring anything as we keep track of past illnesses, allergies, medications, diagnostic tests, and etc. 

If you have not brought your dog or cat to us before, we recommend bringing their medical records if it’s on hand. However, a medical record is not a requirement for us to assist with your pet’s condition.

Will my pet need to stay overnight after an emergency visit?

Whether your pet needs overnight monitoring depends on the severity of their condition. For Sploot patients requiring overnight care, they will be transferred to an emergency hospital.

What should I do if my pet's condition worsens after an emergency visit?

Here at Sploot, our Emergency Vet Care Hotline is available to answer your questions and offer support both before and after your visit. If your pet's condition continues to worsen after an emergency vet visit, please contact us, and our team will guide you on the appropriate next steps.

Is diarrhea or vomiting an emergency vet care case?

Pet vomiting or diarrhea can be considered an emergency case if the dog or cat is…
• Vomiting or experiencing diarrhea for more than 12 hours
• Exhibiting other co-occurring sudden symptoms like lethargy, weakness, collapse, and fever
• Suspected to have ingested a toxic food or substance.

Is fever an emergency case?

The normal body temperature for dogs and cats is between 99.5 and 102.5º F. A temperature above these ranges is considered a fever. 

Determining if a fever is a pet emergency depends on its cause — which can be anything from heat exhaustion, a viral pathogen, a bacterial infection, or ingestion of toxic substances.

It’s always best to be cautious; we recommend reaching out to our veterinarians.

What do I do if I suspect my pet has eaten a toxic substance?

If your dog or cat has consumed xylitol (an unsafe artificial sweetener for pets), chocolate, marijuana, antifreeze, rat poison, or other harmful substances, contact the Pet Poison Helpline or ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center right away.

Additionally, if you suspect poisoning in your pet, we advise contacting Sploot for emergency vet care services. Time is critical in poison cases, and inducing vomiting is also time-sensitive.
