FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can you call an emergency vet for advice?

Yes—while emergency veterinarians can’t provide a diagnosis over the phone, we can provide some helpful first aid tips and guidance on what to do next.

How much is an emergency vet visit?

Costs can vary widely, but most emergency vet visits range from $200 to $2,000+. Sploot emergency care is often 60% cheaper than regular ER animal hospitals.

However, these costs can vary depending on the following:

  • Your pet’s condition and the care required - diagnostic testing, medications and treatments provided
  • Location: Urban areas often have higher costs than suburban or rural clinics
  • Type of facility (24/7 ER vs urgent care)
  • Specialty emergency hospitals often have higher overhead than daytime urgent care clinics
  • Surgery: More advanced cases requiring procedures will increase total cost
Does pet insurance cover emergency vet services?

Most comprehensive pet insurance plans (i.e., accident-illness pet insurance) will cover a set portion of the emergency costs (co-pay percentage), depending on the policy. As the name implies, injuries from accidents as well as sudden illnesses are covered by this type of insurance, unless listed as exclusions.

Other factors that can affect pet emergency coverage include:

  • The set deductibles in your policy
  • Waiting periods (typically for new policies)
  • Any excluded pre-existing conditions
When should you seek emergency veterinary care for your dog or cat?

You can bring your cat or dog to Sploot Veterinary Care for emergency services to address concerns such as vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, fever, injuries, infections, suspected foreign body ingestion, and similar conditions. These are examples of the most common cases we evaluate and treat in our all-in-one veterinary clinics in Denver, Colorado Springs, Chicago, and Salt Lake City.

Not sure if your pet needs to be seen?

Call any Sploot location to speak with a member of our medical team free of charge. We're happy to help you assess the situation and decide on the right next step — whether that's booking a same-day visit with us or heading somewhere else for more intensive care.

For more critical situations — such as difficulty breathing, collapse, active seizures, or severe bleeding — we recommend going directly to a 24/7 emergency hospital for immediate, intensive care.
